Translucent Roof and Wall Panels for Daylighting
Translucent roof and wall panels matched to steel sheeting profiles, bringing diffuse daylight into pre-engineered buildings and reducing artificial lighting.

Key features
- Profiles matched to steel roof and wall sheeting
- Diffuse natural light reduces daytime lighting needs
- Glass-fiber reinforced polyester or polycarbonate
- Single-skin or insulated double-skin options
- Installed with compatible closures and fasteners
Translucent panels are light-transmitting sheets made to match the profile of the steel roof or wall cladding. They are installed in place of selected steel sheets to bring daylight into the building. Common materials include glass-fiber reinforced polyester and polycarbonate, each available in different weights and light transmission levels.
Daylight from the roof is diffuse and evenly distributed, which can greatly reduce the need for artificial lighting during the day in warehouses, factories, farm buildings and sports halls. Wall translucent panels provide light at working height and views of the sky, though with less even distribution.
The number and position of panels are a balance between light, heat gain and glare. Too many panels in a hot climate can raise the cooling load, while well-distributed panels at a modest proportion of the roof area often give good light with limited heat gain. Insulated or double-skin translucent systems reduce heat flow where needed.
Translucent roof panels must be treated as fragile unless specifically certified otherwise. Safety measures such as mesh, guarding or walkways are considered by the designer, and the panels are marked during maintenance planning.
Panels are lapped and fastened with the steel sheeting, using compatible closures, sealants and oversize washers where required for thermal movement. World Steel supplies translucent panels matched to the selected sheeting profile, with material, color and light transmission chosen for each project.
In a request for quotation, state the preferred proportion or layout of translucent panels, the material, light transmission grade, single-skin or double-skin construction and any fall protection requirements for maintenance access to the roof.
