Steel Canopies, Fascias and Roof Extensions

Steel canopies, fascias and roof extensions for pre-engineered buildings: covered entrances, docks and architectural edges framed from the main structure.

Key features

  • Cantilevered canopies at entrances and docks
  • Roof extensions along sidewalls or endwalls
  • Fascias and parapets for architectural edges
  • Optional lined soffits
  • Designed with the main frames for wind and snow

Canopies, fascias and roof extensions add shelter and character to a pre-engineered building. A canopy is a cantilevered roof projecting from a wall, usually below the eave, to cover entrances, loading docks or walkways. A roof extension continues the main roof beyond the sidewall or endwall at the same slope, creating a covered area along the building.

Fascias are vertical or sloped panels framed at the eave or along the roof edge. They can hide gutters, give the building a flat-topped or architectural appearance and carry signage. Parapets extend the wall above the roof line and are used for a similar effect, often with concealed gutters behind them.

These elements are part of the structure, not decoration added afterwards. Canopy and roof extension rafters connect to the main columns or frames, and fascia framing is supported by brackets and girts. Their loads, including wind uplift on the projecting roof, snow drifts at changes in level and signage weight, are included in the frame design.

Soffits under canopies and roof extensions can be left open or lined with steel panels for a finished appearance. Lighting, drainage and gutter outlets are coordinated in the details.

World Steel supplies canopies, fascias and roof extensions designed with the main building, finished to match the cladding and detailed on the erection drawings. They are widely used on warehouses, showrooms, service stations and exhibition halls.

When requesting these items, state the location, projection, clear height, fascia depth and profile, soffit finish and any signage or lighting loads. These details allow the framing to be designed and the finish to be matched to the main building.
