Profiled Steel Roof and Wall Sheeting

Profiled steel roof and wall sheeting in metallic coated and pre-painted steel, through-fastened to purlins and girts for durable metal building cladding.

Key features

  • Trapezoidal and corrugated profiles for roofs and walls
  • Metallic coated and pre-painted steel options
  • Through-fastened with sealed self-drilling screws
  • Matching translucent panels and liners
  • Coatings selected for the exposure of the site
  • Wide choice of colors for architectural finish

Profiled sheeting is the most widely used cladding for pre-engineered buildings. Trapezoidal or corrugated profiles are roll-formed from metallic coated or pre-painted steel coil, and the ribs give the thin sheet the stiffness to span between purlins and girts. Sheets are fixed through the profile with self-drilling screws fitted with sealing washers.

The same family of profiles is used on roofs and walls. On roofs the sheets run from ridge to eave with side laps over the ribs and end laps where more than one sheet length is needed. On walls they usually run vertically from base angle to eave. Profile, thickness and fastener spacing are selected by design for the spans and wind loads at the site.

The metallic coating, typically zinc or aluminum-zinc alloy, provides the main corrosion protection. Pre-painted finishes add color and further durability, with paint systems chosen for the climate, exposure and appearance required. Coastal, industrial and chemically aggressive environments call for higher-performance coatings.

Profiled sheeting can be combined with insulation blankets, liner panels and translucent panels with matching profiles, giving a complete roof and wall system. Trims, flashings and closures finish the edges and keep the envelope weathertight.

World Steel supplies profiled sheeting as part of complete buildings and as separate supply, with profiles, coatings and colors agreed for each project. For long low-slope roofs or large thermal movements, a standing seam roof may be the better choice and is assessed during design.

In a request for quotation, state the preferred profile, thickness, coating type, paint system and color, along with the site exposure and roof slope. Where these are not known, World Steel can propose a suitable system for review by the project designer.
