Steel Mezzanine Floor Systems
Steel mezzanine floor systems for pre-engineered buildings: beams, joists, deck and stairs that add office, storage or plant space inside the building.

Key features
- Columns, beams and joists designed with the building
- Deck with concrete topping, checker plate or grating floors
- Independent or frame-connected support
- Steel stairs, handrails and edge protection
- Provision for pallet gates and service openings
A mezzanine floor adds a suspended level inside a building, creating space for offices, storage, plant or viewing areas without enlarging the footprint. In a pre-engineered building the mezzanine is designed with the main structure, using steel columns, beams and joists that support a floor deck.
Floors are commonly formed with steel deck and a concrete topping, steel checker plate, gratings or panel floors, depending on use. Office floors usually need a concrete topping for stiffness and acoustic performance, while storage platforms may use deck panels or gratings.
The mezzanine can be fully independent of the building frames, supported on its own columns, or connected to the main columns at specific points. The project engineer decides which approach suits the layout and loads. Floor loads for the intended use, partition loads, equipment weights and any future change of use must be stated so the design is correct.
Serviceability is as important as strength. Floor deflection and footfall vibration are checked against the criteria for the use, especially for office floors.
Access is provided by steel stairs with handrails, and edge protection is designed to the governing code. Openings for goods lifts, pallet gates and services are coordinated in the layout.
World Steel supplies mezzanine floor systems as part of complete buildings or for installation in existing structures, with beams, joists, deck, stairs and handrails detailed in one package.
When requesting a mezzanine, state its size and location, the floor use and loads, floor finish, stair positions, edge protection needs and any openings for lifts or services. The project engineer then confirms the framing, deck and support arrangement for review.
