Fasteners & Anchors
Sheeting Fasteners, Closures and Sealants
Self-drilling screws, stitch screws, foam closures and sealants for metal roof and wall sheeting, keeping steel building envelopes secure and weathertight.

Key features
- Self-drilling screws with bonded sealing washers
- Stitch screws for side laps
- Profile-matched foam closures
- Sealant tapes and mastics for laps and trims
- Coatings and stainless options for exposure
- Fastening patterns on erection drawings
The roof and wall cladding of a metal building depends on many small parts. Self-drilling screws fix the sheeting to purlins and girts, stitch screws join side laps between sheets, and foam closures and sealants fill the gaps where sheeting meets trims, ridges and eaves. Together they keep the envelope secure in wind and weathertight in rain.
Self-drilling screws drill, tap and fasten in one operation. They are fitted with bonded sealing washers that seal the hole and allow some movement. Screw diameter, length, thread type and coating are selected for the thickness of the supporting member and the exposure of the building. Fastener spacing is set by the wind design and is often closer at edges and corners.
Foam closures are shaped to match the profile of the sheeting. They are installed at eaves, ridges, bases and openings to block wind-driven rain, dust, insects and birds. Sealant tapes and mastics are placed in side laps, end laps and trim joints, and must be compatible with the coated steel.
Corrosion of fasteners can shorten the life of a roof. Coatings and materials, including stainless steel caps or bodies for aggressive environments, are chosen to match or exceed the durability of the sheeting. Correct installation, without over-tightening or angled driving, is equally important.
World Steel supplies fasteners, closures and sealants matched to the selected roof and wall systems, with fastening patterns shown on the erection drawings.
When specifying, state the cladding system, the support member thickness, the site exposure and any durability expectation. Replacement fasteners and sealants used during maintenance should match the original specification so that the envelope keeps its performance over its life.
